URCovered Overdraft Protection

A discretionary overdraft service provided to members in good standing.

URCovered is an overdraft service provided to members in good standing. It is used to pay items against a consumer checking account when the account balance is insufficient. URCovered is a complement to any overdraft protection you may already have in place and is accessed after any existing overdraft options have been exhausted.  However, URCovered is not available for members with a FlexChecking account as that account is designed to not allow overdrafts.

URCovered is discretionary and is designed to cover non-sufficient funds (i.e., overdrafts/negative balances) that may result from:

  • The payment or non-payment of checks
  • ACH debits
  • Funds deposited to your account that are not yet available
  • Service charges and fees
  • The return of unpaid items that are deposited into your account
The URCovered service does not automatically cover overdrafts for ATM or debit card transactions. You may request to opt into this portion of the program by calling us at (505) 342-8888, or toll free at (888) 342-8766, or by visiting any of our branches.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is URCovered?
A. URCovered is a discretionary overdraft service provided to members in good standing. URCovered covers transactions that would otherwise be denied or returned unpaid. It helps you avoid costly merchant fees and embarrassment while increasing convenience.

Q. What is the difference between Overdraft Protection and URCovered?
A. Overdraft Protection uses money from Savings, Investment Plus, or a line of credit to cover transactions if there are insufficient funds in your checking account. If those overdraft protections are not adequate, then URCovered allows you to take your checking account balance negative in order to cover the transactions up to a predetermined limit.

Q. What types of transactions are covered by URCovered?
A. Your checks, ACH, and Bill Pay transactions are automatically covered by URCovered once your account has been active for 90 days. You may also opt-in to have ATM and Debit Card transactions covered.

Q. Am I required to opt in to URCovered?
A. Regulations require members to opt in to receive URCovered services for ATM and Debit Card transactions. Your checks, ACH, and Bill Pay transactions are automatically covered once your account has been active for 90 days.

Q. How do I opt in to URCovered, and can I change my mind later?
A. To opt in to URCovered for ATM and Debit Card transactions, use any of the following methods:

  • Call Member Services at (505) 342-8888, or toll free at (888) 342-8766
  • Visit any branch

You may opt out of URCovered for ATM and Debit Card transactions or cancel URCovered altogether at any time by using any of the methods above.

Q. Is there a fee for URCovered?
A. There is no fee.
