2022 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

2022 US Eagle Scholarship Program

Don't let the media fool you; school is cool, and it's even cooler when you get free money for tuition, books, and living expenses. We know that school isn't cheap, but we also know that higher education is one of the ways we're going to build a better future for our state. That's why we have created a scholarship program to allow New Mexico students to open the door to more opportunities.

Congratulations to our 2022 Scholarships recipients. Learn more about our recipients below:

Build a Branch - Recipient: Aydriane Vigil

Award Amount: $2,000

Scholarship Description: New Mexico covers 121,356 square miles, with an estimated population of 2,095,428 people – 686,089 living in rural New Mexico (USDA-ERS). These rural areas face struggles related to demographic changes, land use and environment, workforce development, capital access, infrastructure, health, and community preservation. These challenges make individuals in rural areas more likely to fall victim to predatory lending practices like payday or title loans. Your task is to identify a rural New Mexico community (by definition of the U.S. Census https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/geography/guidance/geo-areas/urban-rural.html ) with two or fewer financial institutions. Build a Credit Union Branch in this community to provide access to products and resources. Your budget is $1M. Consider the following in your essay:

  • What services and products do you offer?
  • What marketing strategies can you use?
  • How do you gain trust in your community and stand out?
  • How do you handle staffing challenges due to the low population?
  • You completed your plan and realized you went over the budget. What measures do you take to cut costs?

Show Me Your SOUL - Recipient: Dylan Ortega

Award Amount: $2,000

Scholarship Description: Show us your SOUL. US Eagle believes that by adding SOUL - Sincerity, Objectivity, Urgency, Learning – and simplicity to the financial experience, we will create fiercely loyal members, deeply engaged employees, and thriving communities. That is our vision.

Now it's your turn. Introduce your business, your mission statement, and your vision.

You are tasked with producing onboarding materials for new hires. Provide an acronym that incorporates your business values (remember, ours is SOUL) to help them visualize your mission's meaning and value. Vigil Bullying Prevention - Recipient: Anastasia Holguin

Award Amount: $2,000

Scholarship Description: The 2017 School Crime Supplement (National Center for Education Statistics and Bureau of Justice) indicates that about 20% of students ages 12-18 experienced bullying nationwide. Bullying can happen anywhere and to anyone: youth, adults, at school, at work, and it can occur online, verbally, socially, and physically.

The US Eagle Foundation has created a scholarship opportunity for students who have actively partaken and/or created effective anti-bullying initiatives in their school or community.

Submit an essay or video describing an anti-bullying action plan or initiative you have spearheaded or taken an active role in.

Some examples of what to include in your submission:

  • A brief background on why you are passionate about the program.
  • A clear description of what action you took.
  • How did you raise awareness? (include your outreach strategy and optionally attach any outreach materials you may have used).
  • What were the outcomes of your initiative?
  • Was this a one-off campaign or a sustainable long-term initiative?
